“Everything you’ve heard about me is true.”
FFG has revealed the Lando Commander and his many capes expansion for Star Wars Legion.
I am going to start with the miniature, it looks like you get 2 heads and 3 different capes along with two poses. These is awesome and I don't know which way I will be building my Lando.
Lando comes in at 105pts with 6 health on a surging white defence. He also is courage 2 and surges to critical. Upgrade slots are command, training and gear. Nothing special so far but his unit keywords are were alot of the value for this character is. These are Contingencies 3, Covert Ops, Flawed, Sharpshooter 2 and Uncanny Luck. Lando's X-8 Night Sniper Pistol is range 3 red black Pierce 1.
Contingencies 3 allows Lando to place 3 command cards in a separate pile in addition to the normal command hand and these can be subbed in for the same pip card after revealing command cards by discarding the current card. For Lando this could actually be a down side because his flaw card interacts directly with the command card discard pile.
I've Altered the Deal is Lando's flaw card so is given to you opponent at the start of the game. It can be played at the start of a command phase if there are 3 or more command cards in discard pile of the controlling Lando. During this round Lando's command cards and contingencies cannot be used. This could really hurt if you have only Lando's command cards in your hand but if you plan for it you should be able to get around this limitation.Lando's command cards Idiot's Array, Ace Up His Sleeve and All In
Idiot's Array is one pip issues an order to Lando only and gives him Gunslinger and Marksman and depending on what cards are in your discard pile for command cards. If you can find a 3 pip you gain an aim and dodge, if a 3 pip and a 2 pip have been discard Lando gets 2 aims and 2 dodges and if there is 3 cards one of each pip value 3 aims and dodges. Ofcourse your opponent can see your discard pile and his flaw card is online if you have 3 cards in your discard pile.

Ace Up His Sleeve has abilities the first is when played as normal it issues orders to Lando and 1 unit these units gain a dodge or standby token. Now this is a standby token not a standby action is if you issued to Fleet Troopers they would not get the aim token aswell. However standbys are nice to give to I don't know maybe OP Luke in melee with something. The second part is basically token draw fixing, before drawing from your order pool, you may instead discard this card from you contingencies or hand, Issue an order to Lando or a friendly unit at range 1-2 then activate that unit. Lando gets to cheat the normal rules of drawing from the bag exactly once a game. Both of these abilities are very strong, giving a character like OP Luke a standby token is extreme powerful considering he has charge and disengage. However pulling the exact token that you need when you need it when you were unable to issue an order directly to them such as on Lando's one pip turn also is amazing. If these two abilities were on different cards for Lando he would be busted having them both on the same card does limit its power enough to be balanced.
All In issues orders to Lando and 2 unit and each enemy at range 1-3 and in line or sight to Lando gains 2 observation tokens. This in itself would be a very good card in lot of situations however there is more. Before Lando rolls dice during an attack he may call block or crit. After the reroll dice step if atleast 1 die matches the result called he can add 2 additional ones if not his opponent can remove 2 dice. Note this is before converting surges so it needs to be a natural result. It is also before Pierce would take effect aswell which gives a chance to Lando to save a piercing shot. This effect could mean you are reroll a surge on defence to attempt to get a natural block to not lose 2 dice. This seems to be the ultimate gamblers card but that part of it is optional.
So that is everything on Lando, he seems extremely good the only concern I have is the price point of 105 that is 5pts more than Cassian with his Config who can perform a similar role and does not have a flaw. Contingences makes me want to play him with 2 other characters in most list to maximise the options of command cards. One card I think Lando loves is the 1 pip Sabotaged Communications it limits the opponent to issuing only 1 order from their command card. It is really good against certain other cards such as Iden' Tactical Strike or Rex's Take That Clankers and We Are Not Programmed which either rely on face up orders or hands out 4 tokens. (Tactical Strike does both) If you think your opponent is going to play a card like this you can drop on of your one pips and if they don't you can leave Idiot's Array for example there but if they do you can shut that turn down. I can see a Lando, Han Chewie list where your command hand just messes with your opponent all game with Change of Plans and Sabotaged Communications waiting to be used at the perfect time.
I cannot wait to get him to the table in lots of different lists. Where do you think he will fit in the Rebel meta?
